Abstract
14,128. Schubert, M. July 3. Paper tubes.-Paper of a width equal to the required length of tube passes from a roll through suitable severing and pasting devices to a winding mandrel which gives the blank an accelerated motion, the interval thus obtained allowing the wound mandrel to be moved from the winding position and another mandrel to take its place. A suitable winding-apparatus is shown. A series of mandrels a is carried by a disk e to which a pawl- and-ratchet device, not shown, gives an intermittent rotation. The mandrel, being wound, is surrounded by rollers b, b<1>, which intermesh as in Fig. 3 so as closely to surround the mandrel which is rotated by suitable means not shown. The rollers b are arranged in semicircular groups round the periphery of a wheel f, so that as one mandrel leaves one group of rollers the succeeding mandrel engages the next group of rollers. The rollers b<1> are carried on an oscillating arm d, which allows the escape of the wound mandrel. The blank is guided through a narrow slot c between the rollers b<1> by fingers i. The rollers b may be carried on an oscillating arm similar to the arm d, and the rollers may be arranged in more than two groups adapted to recede from the wound mandrel. The finished tubes are removed by withdrawing the mandrels through the disk e, which acts as a stripper, by means not shown.
