Carburetting.-An airgas plant comprises a rotary carburettor, a rotary blower, an engine for driving thecarburettor and blower actuated by some of the gas produced, and a gas-holder arranged to control the supply of liquid and air to the carburettor. Hydrocarbon is supplied through a sight-feed n and nozzle k to a wick or wicks m leading into the interior of the carburettor a, which contains a rotatable wheel e consisting of a zigzag arrangement of gauze, cotton, or the like partly covered by a shield t. During rotation, wicks s dip into a tray r to pick up hydrocarbon which may have accumulated. Air is forced through the carburettor by a rotary blower b, and the carburetted air passes away at g to a gas-holder c, the inlet pipe h of which is provided with a valve u or with a liquid seal formed by bending the pipe to dip into water in a vessel w, Fig. 5, carried on a float v in the gas-holder. The blower and carburettor are driven by a hot-air or gas engine d supplied with some of the gas produced through a pipe z. The bell 6 of the gas-holder controls the tap p on the hydrocarbon supply pipe, and also the air supply, either by disconnecting the blower from the engine d or by allowing the escape into the atmosphere of air not required.
