Abstract

11,625. Osswald, F. M. May 28. Cam mechanism. - Screw-propeller blades are feathered by means of a sliding rod J operated by a sleeve O surrounding the propeller shaft M having two helical slots or sets of slots of different pitch. Rollers q, q<1> in slots P, P<1> engage the spindle J and shaft M respectively. A double clutch is mounted on the sleeve 0 having teeth inclined in the same direction as the helical slots and rotating the sleeve 0 with the shaft M by the slots t and keys s'. The spindle J is moved by rotating the wheels V, lifting one of the clutches out of gear against the spring s, and sliding the sleeve O. The sleeve O will rotate relatively to the shaft M and by reason of the difference in pitch of the slots g, q<1> will move the spindle J. The teeth on the clutch prevent any return motion taking place until the pressure is exerted on the sleeve by the nuts I in the opposite direction.
