Abstract

11,162. Meek, J. W., and Thomas, D. B. May 22. Trays, dishes, &c.-To develop roll-films in daylight, the spool 30 is placed in a spool-box 9 which slides on to a hinged door 7 covering an aperture therein, and the end of the black paper 29 is attached to a spindle 5 by a wire 26 thereon. An apron is then passed into the casing 1 at the opening 24, and when it appears at the other end of the wall 23, it is further drawn through and also attached to the spindle 5 by hooks 27. The door 7 is closed and bolted, and the milled heads 18 rotated till the unwinding is completed. The spool-box. 9 is removed and may be replaced by a sliding lid, and the casing 1 is immersed in a developing- tank which may have an annular recess to indicate the correct level for the liquid and which may be used for storing the apparatus. Holes under the milled heads 18 are light. trapped by flanges 4 on the 'winding reel Arrangements consisting of a wire 14 and overlapping edges furnished with rubber render the door 7 lighttight. A spring presses against a polygonal collar at one end of the spindle 5 to prevent the film with its apron from becoming unwound. The apron has along each edge a strip of rubber with rows of teeth, attached by rubber solution and stitching, to space off the film. The spool-box 9 has two pivots to take into the ends of the spool, one of them being spring-controlled and able to be partially withdrawn by the head 34. Specifications No. 5504, A.D: 1893, No. 21,243, A.D. 1899, and No. 14,714, A.D. 1902, are referred to.
