Abstract

10,926. Froger, L. V. W. May 20. Bollards; rollers, fairlead.-Apparatus for towi n g ships comprises a towing - rope consisting of several parts 10, 11 connected together by shackles 15 to form an endless cable which passes over grooved d pulleys rotatably mounted on the bollards 1, 2. By this means the two parts of the cable on either side of the e bollards automatically equalize their length by turning the rings 8, Fig. 5, on the rollers 7. The bollards are fitted at each end of the tug and the vessel to be towed, and the rotatable ring 8 is provided with guides 9 to receive the rope 10, the ring 8 being maintained in position by flanges 4. Ball races are fitted between the ring 8 and the lower flange on which it bears.
