Abstract

8776. Schultz, F. W. F. April 22. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Projectiles, ordnance.-Shrapnel shells, of the type in which two or more explosive chambers are fired in succession, are so constructed that the explosion of one chamber displaces some metallic parts and thereby opens a passage to the next chamber. In the form illustrated in Fig. 1, a first charge f, fired by a fuse g, projects a disk c forward ; the explosion is then communicated to the second charge e over a wall b. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the tube g is secured to the head of the shell. By means of a time fuse h, the charge e is exploded before the charge f ; or, by using a percussion fuse, the charge f may be exploded first.
