Abstract
7894. Braman, W. L. April 9, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Expansion, varying ; starting ; valves and valvegear ; cross-heads.-Hand-controlled lead-regulating valves 34, 35 having extensions 36 are moved beneath a main slide valve 11 of a locomotive engine by eccentrics 37, 38, 39 on a shaft 40 within the valve-chest. The main valve 11 slides between guides 31, 32, and is operated by an eccentric 17 on the crank-shaft. The cross-head 21 slides upon bars 22, which are rigidly secured to the cylinder .and to a bracket 23. Side strips 54 are placed on the sides of the regulating-valves, and are retained yieldingly in position by bars 55, which are held in position by springs 56. The valves 34, 35 are moved in opposite directions by oscillating the shaft 40 by means of a hand-lever 44.
