Abstract

28,582. Delville, T., and Mennig, E. Dec. 28. Valve gear.-The valve gear, worked from eccentrics and the crosshead, communicates to the slide valve an accelerated motion towards the ends of its stroke, and retards it in the middle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the steam enters between the pistons of the valve. The fixed axes are shown at U and 0. Assuming the crosshead H to be stationary, the eccentric-rod T would communicate to the valve a certain motion, or if the eccentric rod T were stationary, the crosshead would impart to the valve a certain motion. The sum of these two motions produces the desired result. In Fig. 3, the fixed axes are shown at j and j and the eccentric-rod at m. The point S, Fig. 1, may be worked from a link-motion with two eccentrics, or one variable-throw eccentric may be used. Several arrangements are described whereby the desired result may be obtained from an ordinary link-motion by making the crosshead vary the position of the slide block or link as shown in Fig. 6. In Fig. 9, the link motion and slide block are shown replaced by compensating- links, the curved lever 1, 4, 6 here taking the place of the link 1, 4, Fig. 6.
