Abstract
4529. Maly, J. Feb. 28. Producers.-A grate or tuyÞre for a gas-producer is divided into several superposed chambers each having independent air or steam pipes, so that the composition and pressure of the blast supplied at different heights of the fire zone can be regulated. The grate consists of a conical casing b eccentrically mounted in a rotating ashtray a. The lower part of the grate is connected directly with a main blast pipe e supplying air only to the fire. The upper part is divided by horizontal positions into two chambers ; the top one or apex n chiefly supplies steam only, but is capable also of supplying steam and air or air only, and the lower one i supplies air and steam mixed or not. Ribs t are provided on the grate and also on the producer walls to break up the clinker, which is eventually discharged over the side of the ash-tray through a shoot r. Knives may be fixed to the producer casing to loosen any deposit in the ash-tray. In a modification, the upper chambers are divided by vertical perforated partitions, and the steam-pipes are directed to deliver on one side only.
