2753. Thomas, W. P. Feb. 7. Motor road vehicles.- Relates to chain or gear cases for motor and other vehicles in which the suspension permits the case to adapt itself to the action of the springs of the vehicle. The end of the countershaft has a bearing C, Fig. 2, attached in place of the usual nut, on which is carried a plate E provided with longitudinal slots, Fig. 1, through which pass bolts F fixed to the case. In this way, the case can be adjusted in relation to the sprocket. The case may be supported at the driven sprocket upon brake or other drums H, K, Fig. 2, by means of felt or other flexible retaining-washers. Arms L may be used in place of, or in addition to these drums. The arms may be two in number, secured to the axle and extending vertically, or nearly so in both directions. Adjustable set-pins N engaging longitudinal grooves O on the case can move transversely by means of slots in the arm L. Thus the yielding of springs is allowed for in all directions by the sliding attachments.
