Rail joints. - In a joint of the Weber . type, whether insulated or not, the rail is held at its fishing angles out of contact with the base: The rail is supported by a fish-plate 5, Fig. 9, and a filler-block 4 clear of the base 9, which may be seated in a chair 18, the joint being insulated, if required, by a sheet 30 and bushings 32. The fishplate 5 may be replaced by a filler-block similar to the block 4, or the block 4 may be replaced by a channel side bar 22, Fig. 5, having one flange 26 bearing on the base flange 10, the bearing-surfaces being preferably inclined as at 26<a>, Fig. 8, to hold the rail up when tightening the fish-bolts. The fish-plate 5 need not rest on the base 9. The side bar 22 may have a wood filler-block 23, Fig. 5, or a spring washer W, Fig. 8, or its lower flange 25 may abut against the base flange 10. The rail may be canted by seating the base on a canted chair 27, Fig. 5. Three insulated forms are also described.
