Abstract
1274. NoÙl, C. F. Jan. 18, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Void. [Published under Patents &c. Act, 1907.] [Application for Patent of Addition to No. 19,566, A.D. 1905.] Locks, key and permutation.-In the lock described in Specification No. 19,566, A.D. 1905, the permutation key device is provided with a spring cap and a ring for attaching it to a watch-chain, and also with a spring pawl for engaging the disks and locking them in position. The locking-mechanism comprises a series of slotted disks t in place of the slides described in the above Specification, and a two-part member e<1>, e<2>, of which one part has projections x adapted to engage the slots y of the disks t, and the other is actuated by a cam a' on the handle spindle z. When the disks t are set by the insertion of the key device into the tube p, and the handle is turned, the projections x are forced into the slots y, and the bolt c' is withdrawn by means of the bits b<1> on the spindle. When the bolt is withdrawn, the pin k<1> thereon is removed from under the part e<2>, allowing this to be moved by the knob h<1> to bring the slots j<1> in front of the pins g<1> on the part e', thus putting the permutation mechanism out of action. The disks t are made in two parts, one t<1> containing the slot y, and the other t<2> being toothed to adapt it for operation by the slides q in the tube p. The two parts are normally secured together by a spring catch u. When it is desired to change the combination, the bolt is withdrawn, and the plate l<1> is moved forward by the handle m<1>. The plate l<1> has projections which disengage the spring catches u and hold the slotted parts of the disks stationary. A new combination can then be formed on the key device, and the toothed parts of the disks turned to correspond ; on the withdrawal of the plate l<1>, the parts are again secured together. In Fig. 8 is shown a key w, with fixed or movable bits, which can take the place of the permutation device.
