Stiffeners.-To prevent treading-over in boots and shoes, the following device is screwed to the crown seating of the heel inside the shoe :-A comblike spring plate 5 is secured by rivets or screws to a dished metal plate 6, having a forward extension 1 to the region of the toe joints. The springs are bent inwards at 8 and outwards at 9, to grip the heel of the wearer and to engage the shoe lining respectively. The device may be stamped in one piece from sheet metal and pressed to shape.
