Abstract
190,791. Dodd, J. A. W., and Davis, L. Sept., 27. 1921. Circular machinces; needles.-The sliding latch needles 3 of a circular machine are formed with inclined shoulders 4 in the shank or with a taper extending from the hook to an intermediate point in the shank while the needle cams are so arranged that after drawing loops the needles move. upward to a point 16 with a uniform comparatively high velocitv and continue upwards to the point 17 at which the stitches are cleared with a uniform but greatly decreased velocity. From a point 18 after a more. rapid upward movement to the point 19 the needles move gradually upward and the stitches are expanded by the shoulders 4. It is statea that owing to the diminution in the speed of the upward movement of the needles between the point 16 and 17 and the consequent lag in the first portion of the clearing stroke of the previously formed stitches. the operation of reintroducing thread to the needles (" pressing on ") is greatly facilitated.
