Abstract
190,733. Barton, G. V., and Lead Products Syndicate, Ltd. June 22, 1921. Lead oxide. - Apparatus for the production of lead monoxide, by the method in which a bath of molten lead is agitated and oxidized with a blast of air or steam and the oxide fumes are condensed in suitable chambers, comprises an oxide pot A which may be of any suitable construction, and which is heated by the furnace, the gases from which, together with those from the melting- pot furnace (not shown) pass into the main flue F. A straight, but inclined up-cast shaft B connects the oxide pot with the upper part of the depositing chamber C. The depositing chamber, in transverse section, Fig. 2, is of hopper shape, the sides sloping down, as'shown, to a conveyer M, the trough of which, m<1>, forms the top of the main flue F. The depositing chamber is enclosed in a rectangular structure K, in the walls of which are provided inspection doors k<8> to give access to the spaces between the walls k<1> and the sides of the depositing chamber. These spaces may be heated, if desired, by flue gases, or otherwise. As the oxide fume from the pot A passes through the depositing chamber, the bulk of the oxide is condensed, and falls into the conveyer M, in which it is heated and dried by the flues gases, and along which it is conveyed to the discharge shoot m<2>. The effiuent gases passing through the outlet c<2> still contain a small quantity of oxide, which is separated by means of the separator-conveyers R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>. The direction of the effluent gases through this series of separators is shown by the dotted arrows; the full-line arrows show the direction in which the conveying action of the blades is arranged. The oxide so separated eventually falls through the gas outlet c<2> into the main depositing chamber. The gases leaving the last separator of the series pass into the vessel S, the lower end of which is under water. Specifications 13458/08, 13600/10, 190,955 and 190,956 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 11526/09.
