28,362. Parkes, S. E. Dec. 24. Collapsible boats.-Relates to portable boats of the type adapted to collapse like a concertina. To the canvas skin a, Fig. 2, are attached transverse ribs a<3> adapted to be spaced apart by bottom boards b hinged together at b<1>, the end boards being pointed to correspond with the shape of the canvas skin. The boat in its extended position is further stiffened by thwarts c, which may be notched at c' to engage lugs a<7> of the chocks a<6>. The gunwale rails d are formed in sections, which are held in position by means of metal sockets d' and clamps e', the gunwale ends d* further engaging sockets a<1*> carried by the stem and stern posts a'. In the case of a boat with a square stern, as shown in Figs. 22 and 23, the canvas skin a is fastened between an external rib a<3*> and the transom a<8>, while an internal rib a3 is also secured to the stern-post a<1> and transom. A keel f is further provided, formed of hinged sections rigidly connected by sleeves f<2>, fittings f<3>* carried by the ribs a<3> embracing the keel, to which they may be secured by pinsf<4>, or by clamps.
