Abstract

27,658. Bangre, C. de. April 16, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Axle-trucks or undercarriages.-In mounting railway &c. vehicles, the load is transmitted through a convex piece, which may roll transversely on a concave piece of less curvature, carried in general by each axle. The centres of gravity of the body is below the centres of curvature of the curved pieces, so that, when the wheel of an axle is raised in traversing a curve, a readjustment of the body takes place so as to distribute the axle load approximately equally between its wheels. Each axle is also capable of independent movement about a vertical pivot. Figs, 4 and 5 show the invention applied to a vehicle carried by one pair of axles. The longitudinal beams 11 of the body are carried, through cross-beams, by arched pieces 9, each secured to a cylindrical piece 6 adapted to roll on the cylindrical surface of a piece 5 pivoted to a support 3 carried by the axle-boxes 2. Movement of the piece 6 other than rolling is prevented by projections 8. A pin 13 on the support 3 is guided by a slot in a cross-piece 12 secured to the body, or by a link. The positions of the centre of gravity of the body and of the axes of curvature of the pieces 5, 6 are respectively indicated at g, h, i. In the case of a pair axle bogie, Figs. 6 and 8, the longitudinal girders 25 of the body are supported by shackles 23 from a pair of cross-pieces 20, each pivoted to a secondary chassis 15 provided with cylindrical pieces 16 supported as before described. Figs. 10, 11, and 13 show a four-axle bogie, in which the longitudinal girders 31 of the body are supported by a cross-piece 30 having a convex surface resting on a concave piece 32 pivoted to the cross-beam 34 of a secondary chassis, the longitudinal beams 36 of which are suspended by shackles from cross-pieces 37. These cross-pieces are each pivoted to a frame, provided at one end 41 with a convex portion adapted to roll on a concave surface pivoted to the axle as before described; while the other end 45, Figs. 10 and 13, is pivoted directly to the cross-piece 46 supported by the axle. A bogie of three axles may be similarly constructed. The convex and concave surfaces may be conical or cylindrical. Oscillations may be checked by a spring. Specification No. 6715, A.D. 1903, is referred to.
