Abstract

27,415. Bellhouse, E. L. W., and Jones, R. Dec. 12. Rock drills.-The boring-bit of a percussive rock drill is kept cool, and debris is removed from the bore-hole, by means of air or water'led to the cutting-edge of the bit through a conduit, formed along the axes of the bit and pistonrod C and put in communication with a supply chamber K by means of a tube M. The chamber K may be connected with the exhaust port of the drill, and is mounted on a stuffing-box gland J, through which the tube M slides. A drill - rotating twist-bar E, which passes through a rifled nut F fitted within the piston B, is formed with an axial aperture traversed by the tube M.
