Abstract
27,407. Tourtel, J. M. Dec. 11. Locks, key; keys; keyholes. - In locks of the type in which a flat key is adapted to be inserted into a revolving barrel which is carried round by the key during the operation of the bolt, the slots b in the barrel for the reception of the key are made at different angles, as shown in Figs. 3 or 5, the key being correspondingly bent. The slot in the casing for the key bit may be at a different angle,to those in the barrel. The barrel a is provided with the pivot pin c for the back k, Fig. 10, of the casing, the diameter of the pin being substantially equal to the thickness of the bridge-portion d of the barrel, so that the ends of the key bit do not project through the back of the casing. A number of the barrels may be made from a bar of metal of the right diameter by cutting slots at the desired angles longitudinally in the bar, and then forming the ends of the barrels by a turning-tool, after which the barrels may be cut off.
