Abstract
27,292. Lakhovsky, G. Dec. 10. Screw sockets.- A screw socket for use with bolts for securing rails or chairs to sleepers comprises two shells a, formed on the outside with steps d which embed themselves in the wood of the sleeper, and with ribs e to prevent turning. The shells enclose between them a conical threaded opening, and are thus expanded by the insertion of a bolt c as shown in Fig. 5. When used for fixing the flange of a broad-footed rail, one shell is made shorter than the other to avoid coming into contact with the foot of the rail. When used with a chair i, Fig. 5, a washer j of hard wood is placed between the socket and the chair. The socket is inserted in the hole f in the sleeper by means of a special punch.
