In an apparatus for giving signals on engines the track contact consists of a frame carrying two rollers c, c<1>, Fig. 3, the former of which is capable of being raised into active position by means of the wedgeshaped piece f, which is pressed inwards to raise the contact when the signal with which it is in connexion goes to safety.' The roller c', which is placed centrally between the rails at each signal, is fixed, the roller c being placed on one side for a distant, and on the other side for a ' home ' signal. The three engine contacts for co-operation with the four rollers consist of bent levers l, l<1>, m, Figs. 1 and 2, .pivoted at one end on a shaft n and held adjustably at the other by spiral springs. To the centre of these levers are attached links q making connexion to levers r, mounted on cross-shafts s, one within the other, and a lever r<1> mounted on a shaft s<1>. The movement of these cross - shafts operates the levers u, u, u<1>, respectively leading to upright rods t, t, t<1>.
