Drying grain, hops, peat, salt, &c.-Figs. 1, 3, and 4 show apparatus of the type described in Specification No. 12,087, A.D. 1907, according to which an inner cylinder 3 rotates in an outer casing, carrying a series of floors or shelves 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and boxes are provided at intervals round the outer casing providing means whereby material is conveyed from each floor to the next below it, the air passing up between the floors and through the boxes. A vane-wheel 21 is rotated on an horizontal shaft 22, through a chain and sprocketwheels actuated from the main shaft 10, and spreads the material on the top floor. In each box are arranged horizontal vane-wheels 29, 30 on the same shaft with a star-wheel 32 driven by engagement with studs 33 on the lower sides of the floors. Alternatively, the wheels 29, 30 may be driven from the main shaft. The cover of the discharge box 39 has a hinged flap 40. Adjustable stationary spreaders 28 and air baffles 42, Fig. 3, are arranged between the floors. Additional hot air passes into the inner cylinder at the part 45, and escapes between the floors through apertures 46 having doors or valves operated by chains or ropes 48.
