Abstract

23,782. West & Co., H. J., Webster, R. W., and Chew, L. Oct. 28. Bottling.-Relates to a filling-cock for use with a rotary or stationary bottling-machine for aerated liquids. The empty bottle having been placed on the filling-nozzle g against the rubber pad v, the cock c is turned so that the passage p in it opens communication between a pipe r, which opens into the upper part of the liquid reservoir, and the interior of the bottle, by way of passages q, h, j. The air or gas in the reservoir passes into the bottle until the pressure is uniform in both. The cock c is then turned to the position shown in Fig. 4, so that some of tl e gas in the bottle can pass through the passage d and raise a valve f of the kind described in Specification No. 18,363, A.D. 1906. Liquid from the reservoir is thus allowed to enter the bottle by way of a passage u, valve f, passage d, and nozzle g. At the same time, the air or gas escapes from the bottle by the passages j, h, k into a tube m and enters the upper part of the reservoir through a check valve. When the bottle is full, the cock c is turned so as to close the passages connected with the reservoir, and to allow the air &c. in the neck to escape through ports s, t If the machine is of the rotary type, the cock c may be operated automatically by arms w striking fixed stops. According to the Provisional Specification, the various passages may be controlled by a series of valves instead of by the plug c.
