Abstract

20,927. Monk, J. Sept. 20. Roundabouts.-Relates to the type of roundabout that is mounted on two vertical spindles carrying gear-wheels meshed together so that the arms of one roundabout cross the path of the other. Arms G, G<1> and J, J<1>, Figs. 1 and 4, carrying cars K rotate about centres D, E, geared together as shown, the arms being shaped as in Fig. 1 to allow the necessary crossing. To avoid strain on the spindles D, E, the gear-wheels B, C, Fig. 1, are supported on rollers F or the like. The arms are also supported by angle-pieces H. Guards T, T<1> are mounted above the gear-wheels, which are driven by a spur-wheel L<1> geared to a shaft 0 provided with fast and loose pulleys and a brake wheel U. The cars are shaped as shown in Fig. 3, having a gangway k and seats k<1>. Platforms for entering the cars are arranged as shown in Fig. 4, the entrance being at R<2> and exits at S, S<1>.
