Abstract
20,119. Marconi, G., and Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co. Sept. 9. Telegraphs.-In a transmitter for wireless telegraphy, each of the plates of a condenser f is connected to an insulating revolving disk or sphere of metal e, and the gap between the latter is intermittently bridged, preferably by studs d attached to a third revolving disk a. The metal disk a is carried on a shaft with an insulating-coupling, and the shaft rotates in insulated bearings b, being driven by a turbine or electric motor c. The disks e are rotated at a sufficient speed to obviate burning, by worm-wheels l gearing with worms m on a spindle n, which is driven through an insulating- coupling by an electric motor o. The oscillation circuit, which includes an inductance g, is connected either inductively or conductively to the antenna h, and each plate of the condenser f is connected through inductances or resistances k, to a generator i. The inductances k are preferably so chosen that the period of the oscillations in this circuit is equal to or some exact fraction of the interval which elapses between the passage of two successive pairs of studs between the disks e. Oscillations are in this manner emitted in regular groups, and produce a readily recognizable note in a telephone receiver. Receivers may be used which are tuned to the group frequency of the waves. The disks e may be replaced by any other suitably-moving electrodes, such as rods or bars reciprocated by cams or eccentrics on a rotating shaft.
