17,917. Cranston, S. Aug. 7. Tea &c. making apparatus.-An infusion apparatus for tea, coffee, &c. comprises an open cylindrical vessel A of earthenware &c. fitting into a receiver C and closed at the bottom by a metal cap J attached to it by a bayonet-joint &c. K. On an internal flange D rests a perforated plate E held in position by projections F, and designed to hold the tea &c. below the water. A disk G of cloth, supported by a filter plate H, closes the bottom of the vessel, and is clamped in position by the cap J provided with a timing aperture L. In a modification, the cloth has a flange which folds round the edge of the plate H, and the timing aperture is in a plate which is held against the plate H by the interior flanges of a ring attached to the vessel A in the same way as the cap J above. In another form, there is a filter cloth on each side of the plate H, each cloth having a folding flange and being clamped as in the preceding form. In another form comprising two cloths, one on each side of the plate H, the timing aperture L is in the cap J, which is made of earthenware, and in another form the cap is attached to the vessel A by a coarsepitch screw, the counter-part of which is carried by a metal ring fixed to the vessel. The plate E is removable by a bayonet-joint device, and felt or other annular washers may be interposed between the various parts or sewn to the cloths to form tight joints.
