Drying textile materials. - Chambers for use in drying textile materials are arranged so that hot air passes in at the top and the damp air is carried off at the bottom through an externally heated chimney. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, in which the materials are carried on and between endless carrier bands H, a chamber B is arranged at the side of the drying-chamber A, and air, entering at a sliding door E, is heated by steam coils C or other means and passes down through the drying-chamber and through a flue F to a chimney G heated by the coils C. In a modification, the chimney may be heated by coils in a separate chamber through which it passes, or any other heating means may be used. In another modification, in which hanks of yarn are hung on rods, the drying chamber has doors, and its lower part is cut off by a perforated partition below which is the outlet flue. Fig. 6 shows several drying-chambers A, the moist air from which is drawn off by flues G<1> to a single chimney heated by coils C' ; the flues G<1> are heated as the chimney G is heated in the apparatus shown in Fig. 2 ; the draught may be assisted by a blower R.
