Abstract

16,699. Bedson, J. P. July 20. Rolling.-The bearings of a rolling-mill can be adjusted in a vertical and endlong direction within the housing, either simultaneously or independently. The rolls are mounted in standards a provided with removable caps c, and the bottom half f of each upper-roll bearing rests on projections g formed on the side slots b. The upper halves of the upper-roll bearings and the lower halves of the lower-roll bearings are moved laterally by screws s engaging nuts t attached to the bearings. The screw s is attached to a hollow shaft l enclosing an internal shaft, which actuates the bearing on the other side. By driving these shafts together or independently, the bearings on either side may be simultaneously or independently adjusted. The lower bearings are vertically adjusted by means of wedges w coacting with blocks r. These wedges are moved by screws 3 on hollow and internal shafts 4, which may be operated independently or simultaneously. The work-guide rests on a rest 7, clamped in position in slots by bolts 8, the position of its ends being simultaneously adjusted by wedges 9.
