Be it known that I, Axnnnw A. Nnavn, a resident of Pittsburgh, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rolling-lilills, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a view partly in end elevation and partly in vertical section of a portion of a rolling mill embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a partial section taken on the irregular line IIII of Fig. 1; and Figs. 3 and t are views partly in end elevation and partly in vertical section showing two different modifications of the invention.
My invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in rolling mills, and has more particular relation to the mountings for the table or rest rollers which are journaled in the housings of the mill. Considerable difliculty has been experienced heretofore in providing satisfactory means whereby these rollers, and particularly those most closely adjacent to the lower mill rolls, could be properly mounted sufiiciently close to the mill roll and in a manner to permit of their ready removal.
My invention provides a roller mounting of this character which is simple in its construct-ion and arrangement and which obviates the difficulties heretofore experienced.
Referring first to that form of my invention which is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the numeral 2 designates a rolling mill housing, 3 the upper vertically movable mill roll which is mounted between the vertical guides t within the housing window 5, and 6 is the lower mill roll which rests in the bearings 7. The numeral 8 designates rollers journaled in the mill housings and which form continuations of the usual roll tables (not shown). These rollers 8 being journaled near the edges of the housings where there is ample space, are preferably journaled in removable bushings 9, seated in openings 10 in the housings. These openings are of su'tliciently large diameter so that when the bushings 9 are removed, the rollers 8 can be removed endwise through such openings. 11 designates two rollers closely adjacent to opposite sides of the lower mill roll 6. is desired that these rolls shall be closely adjacent to the mill roll 6 and by reason of the location of their bearings with respect to the bearings for the mill roll, it is not practicable to journal such rollers in the same manner the rollers S. I therefore mount the journals of these rollers 11 in the divided bushings 12, one-half of the bushing being seated in the body of the housing and the other half being carried by a removable cap 13. The seats for these removable caps communicate with the lower portions of the windows 5, and in the construction shown" in Figs. 1 and 2, they are held in place by means of the wedge blocks 14, which are seated between their oblique upper surfaces and the lower ends of the guides 4:, which are made to terminate a sutlicient distance above the bottoms of the windows 5 to receive these blocks. The blocks may be tightly drawn and wedged to their seats by means of the draw bolts 1e, actuated by a nut or nuts 15, and seated in the housing. By loosening and unseating these wedge blocks, the cap section 13 can be readily removed and the rolls can then be slightly raised from their bearings and with.- drawn by an endwise movement, without re moving the lower mill roll 6.
The construction shown in Fig. 3 is similar to that just described, except that instead of relatively short draw bolts H for the wedge blocks, I provide longer draw bolts 16, extending outwardly through the full width of the housing at each side of the window.
In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the wedge blocks and draw bolts are omitted and the caps 13 (corresponding to the caps 13) are secured by means of the bolts 17, extending obliquely into or through the metal of the housing below the window.
My invention provides a very simple and convenient mounting for the rolls 11 and obviates the difiiculties which have heretofore been experienced in the mounting of these rolls.
It will be observed that in addition to the different means which I have shown and described for securing the removable caps in place, various other means may be employed, and that other changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts without depart ing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1.111 a rolling mill, a roll housing provided with a window having at its bottom a bearing for one of the mill rolls, and adjacent to said bearing an open halt bearing for a table roll journal, together with a removable cap member arranged to close and complete the last named. bearing; substantially as described.
In a rolling mill, a housing having a window provided at its bottom with a bean ing for one of the mill, rolls, and also haw ing at eaeh side of said bearing an open halt-bearing for the journal of a table roll, cap members arranged to close and complete the open halt bearings, and wedge means for securing sueh cap members in place; sub stantially as described.

A. rolling mill. housing having an end window formed with a bearing at its bottom tor the lower mill. roll and adjacent thereto having a journal bearing for a table or rest roller, the said window also having Vertical guides for a movable mill roll, said guides terminating above the bottom of the window, a cap member arranged to close and complete said bearing for the table or rest roller, and means for removably securing said cap member; substantially as described.
