Abstract

15,304. Lance, W. H. J. July 3. Hubs.-To allow a railway wheel to adjust itself to the rail when rounding a curve, it is formed in two parts capable of rocking laterally one on the other. The inner part b is secured to the axle w by shrinking, welding, or other means, and its outer surface c is curved. The outer part of the wheel is connected by a web or spokes to a ring d which bears on the curved surface of the part b. The lateral movement of the outer part is limited by plates g bolted to the inner part. Relative rotation of the two parts is prevented by pins e which are screwed into the part b and project into transverse slots f in the ring d.
