Abstract

14,094. Mitcheson, A. June 18. Hatches and hatchways.-Relates to hatchways having sectional metal sliding covers a. The ends of these sections slide in grooves formed by bars b and cover-plates c carried by the transverse coamings d. The outer sections have flanges e, which overlap the longitudinal coamings f and are locked by clamps n. The central section has overlapping flanges h. Channels and pipes k collect and drain away any water escaping between the sections and the cover-plates. A bar may be provided at one or both ends of the hatchway carrying an adjustable arm, which may be engaged with sockets on the sections, so that when one section is being removed the remainder can be clamped against movement. For long hatchways, one or more detachable crossbars o are provided to support the inner ends of the cover sections a, which are made in two or more lengths to extend across the hatchway. These cross-bars carry cover-plates c and channelled supports b which discharge into brackets p, the leakage then passing out through openings q. When the cross-bars are removed, the hollow brackets p may be closed by covers.
