Abstract

13,130. Wetter, J., and Henning, F. W. J. June 6. Inking-rollers, making.-Inking-rollers, preferablyformed of a composition that solidifies on heating, are provided with a tubular core b1, b2, b3 of cheap and light material, such as cardboard, millboard, or other vegetable fibrous material. These cores are preferably of larger internal diameter than the spindle a, and are mounted on ferrules fixed to the shaft in various ways. In one form, Fig. 3, the tapered ferrule c1 is clamped by a nut d or by a clamping-screw. A feather or screw e engaging a slot f in the tubular core b1 prevents it from shifting. At the other end, the ferrule g is preferably secured to the core, and is provided with interlocking means for engaging with the ferrule i, of the roller b2. Suitably-formed distance-pieces may be put in between the ferrules g, i1 and clamping-rings may be put over the joints. In another form, Figs. 6 and 7, the ferrule c3 is parallel, and is prevented from turning on the shaft by a pin s1 projecting from the split clamping-ring s, clamped by a screw u. The centre ferrules are coupled in a similar manner. In some cases, where the rollers are long, intermediate supports are provided. The tubular cores may be made of thin sheet metal, or of a coiled wire spring covered with thick paper.
