Abstract

12,640. Moore, S. Bramley-. May 31. Automatic systems of raising water &c. - A direct fluid-pressure apparatus consists of a vessel having two chambers a, b, Fig. 1, provided with a port c through which the liquid to be raised flows by gravity, ports e, h for the discharge of the liquid, a port g communicating with the source of pressure, and a port d which opens to the atmosphere. The port e also serves for the admission of pressure into the upper chamber, but an additional valve may be employed for the purpose. The valves c', e<1> are operated by the double bell-crank lever l rocked by means of projections m<3>, m<3> on the cross-arm of the bell-crank lever m. A float r, loosely mounted on the rod o between collars o<1>, o<2>, operates the lever m and through it the lever l and valves c<1>, e'. A pin t on the lever l contacts the bell-crank lever s, which governs the valve d'. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the liquid flows through the port c into a vessel v which is operatively connected to the lever l. As the vessel v sinks, the valve c' closes and the valve v<1> is opened by direct contact on the bottom of the chamber a. The lever l operates the spring-controlled valve d' by means of the bell-crank lever s. The balance weight on the lever l restores the vessel v to its highest level when empty. By suitably proportioning the sizes of the ports e, h, a constant flow may be obtained from the delivery port h.
