11,327. Barker, G., [Brill, J. A.]. May 15. Brakes.-Hangers for supporting a brake beam 36 from the vehicle underframe 2 are connected to these parts by similar joints which can be adjusted for wear. Fig. 2 shows the upper end of the hanger shown in Fig. 12. A ball 10 on the rod 9 is seated in a socket 17, 18 in a casing 6 which is connected to the underframe 2 by bolts 3. The socket comprises two interlocked lower sections 18, and an upper section 17 having a lip 23 which extends over the lower sections. The casing 6 is slotted at 8 to facilitate the insertion of the socket before the casing is bolted to the underframe. A spring-pressed wedge 12 fits upon the section 17 and has a screw-threaded stem 13. This stem passes through a cap 14, having a flange 29, which surrounds the projecting portion of the casing 6, and a lug 30 which enters the slot 8, and the whole is tightened up by nuts 15. Covers 33 for the slot 8 are clamped on the rod 9. In a modified construction, Fig. 15, a cylindrical head 43 on the suspension rod fits in a cylindrical socket 39, 40 in a pocket 37 bolted to the underframe 2, and the tightening-wedge 12 rests on an inclined block 45 on the socket.
