Purifiers; condensers.-The inlets and outlets in a Weck's type of centre valve are rendered interchangeable by the addition to the casing of an extra pair of valve chambers, so that the direction of the flow of gas through each purifier, condenser, &c., may be reversed. The ordinary valve-box C as described in Specification No. 2878, A.D. 1882, has a false bottom formed by horizontal and vertical partitions, below which is a space A connecting the gas-inlet main E with the purifier inlets, and above which is a space B connecting the purifier outlets with the outlet main F. When the additional chambers X, Y are used, the inlet main opens into the chamber X, which communicates by upper and lower openings x', x<1> with the spaces B, A respectively, and the outlet leads from the chamber Y which also communicates with the spaces A, B. By raising or lowering the valves in the additional chambers, the gas flows in either direction and order through the purifiers. The apparatus may be used in sections placed at a distance one from another, the spaces A, B of each part being connected by pipes.
