Abstract
9894. Gadsby, E., and Bibby & Baron. April 29. Heel protectors.-In revolving heel pads formed with recesses which receive circular securing flanges on a metal plate, a celluloid plate is used, formed in two parts, one of which is pivoted to the boot heel. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, a celluloid plate a with a flange a<1> is fixed to the heel b, and a part c with a circular flange c<1> is pivoted to the heel. After the pad d is placed in position, the part c is fixed by a screw. The part c may be circular, or may cover the heel ; in the latter case, it is provided with a filling- piece g<1> of leather, rubber. &c. The pad d has an annular recess, which is formed by means such as a flanged metal, celluloid, &c. ring f attached to the pad by pins, if a leather pad is used ; if a rubber pad is used, holes are formed in the ring, and the rubber is forced through the holes before vulcanization and spread at the back. In a modified form, the pivoted fitting c is arranged to allow the pad to be inserted from the side of the heel.
