Abstract

9464. Winberg, N. April 23. Trenching ; dovetailing.-In a wood-working machine, particularly for dovetailing boxes &c., of the type in which a movable work-table and rotary tool are used, the tool carriage 13 is movable longitudinally and also laterally in a circular slide 12 which turns on a pivot 19. The spindle turns about the centre of the pulley. The tool carriage may move longitudinally in guides in a slide which is moved laterally in the slide 12 by means of a rack 18 and pinion. 17, operated by a cam 22 engaging the arm 20 to give the travel required for cutting through the wood. To adjust the arm relatively to the inclination of the cutter slide, it is loose on the shaft 19 and clamped at any desired position to a sector 21 fixed on the shaft. When the cutter is used in its vertical position, the worktable B is raised by a screw 1 and the table C moved horizontally to close the gap. The table B is fed intermittently at the time when the tool slide is almost at the end of its rear movement so as to produce rounded dovetails, preferably by a cam 5 which through levers 7, 9 on a rock-shaft 8 reciprocates a hooked link 10 engaging teeth on a rod 11 attached to the work-table. The spacing of the dovetails may be varied by exchanging the cam or changing the point of connexion of the link. The work-table may be rapidly moved by lifting the link 10 out of engagement and rotating a pinion 26 engaging with a rack on the rod 11, through bevel-gear from a handle 27. The table may be arranged at different angles of inclination. The slots 24, Figs. 3 and 4, are cut with the tool horizontally arranged and the cavities 25, Fig. 5, with the tool in its vertical position.
