Abstract

9292. Donlevy, J. P. L. April 22. Load, securing; vehicles with bodies removable.-Consists in using assemblages of motor skates or tractors of the kind described in Specification No. 22,803, A.D. 1905, [Abridgment Class Toys &c.], and suitably adapting them for the support and traction of wheeled vehicles, men, goods, luggage, war material, &c. Fig. 1 shows an example of this kind of tractor. The motor accessories may be carried in a hollow ca e as in the modified form shown in Fig. 4, this serv ing as the skate platform. Fig. 5 shows a detachable platform m which is suitable for the employment of any convenient number of skates in line, projections n on the underside of the platform engaging holes d and thus forming steering-pivots. Fig. 6 shows a platform made flexible by the provision of joints O. Fig. 7 shows the transport of a gun carriage or vehicle which is supported on the crutch or lifting- jack shown. Fig. 8 shows a method of rendering the skate rigid with the platform m by inserting a removable block y between the platform c and skate body e. Fig. 9 shows the skate wheel provided with double tyres 2 and a groove 3 for the purpose of running on road, a track of T-section, or upon a wire rope track, while Fig. 10 shows an adaptation to a double rope track. In this case the platform 4 having network sides is suspended by means of pillars 5 and may also carry the motor accessories. The platform may be detached, and the skate-tractors taken off the rope, when the platform may be again affixed and transported by road. In Fig. 11 a single rope is used, a balancing beam 8 being provided. Fig. 12 shows a method of using a number of tractors for ordinary railway traction, the tractors being arranged in pairs and the outer tyres removed or flanged wheels substituted. The tractors are coupled together in pairs by stretchers 10 having skids 13 lashed to them. which carry the bearing transoms 14. Guns may be scotched upon these transoms and thus transported. A decking may also be formed for the transport of material and men, steering generally being accomplished by pivoted rods and levers.
