Abstract

6039. Hill. J. March 13. Rollers and roller heads for ring frames. The parts are constructed to facilitate cleaning and removal and to increase the efficiency. The underclearers A are carried by rods C which are pressed upwards by adjustable springs D<1> in casings D pivoted to the frame so that the clearer can be swung to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 for stripping &c. Springs and stops may be applied to the casing in known manner to return it in either position. The upper clearer M is returned in position by an arm M' pivoted to the cap-bar L and controlled by an adjustable spring M<2>, whereby it may be raised together with, or independently of, the cap-bar. The upper drawing-rollers F are weighted by curved rods G<2> connected at their lower ends to adjustable springs G<1> in casings G abutting against the underside of the roller beam H, the removal of the weighting-arrangement being provided for by apertures j in the roller beam, which are normally closed by covers J' and through which the casings G may be withdrawn. The necks of the lower fluted rollers are made wider than the bearings K to facilitate the removal of fly, and the parts of the roller adjacent to the necks may be cylindrical and equal in diameter to the non-nuted parts which are made of lesser length to compensate for the increased necks. Collars beyond the outer bearings prevent end movement of the rollers. Access to the lower roller bearings is provided for by constructing the cap-bar L with the grooves to receive the upper roller ends closed or contracted below so that the upper rollers are raised with the cap bars, which are conveniently arranged in groups of five to control four sets of rollers. The grooves are tapered upwards to the centre of the cap-bar to facilitate removal of fly. The bearing-grooves in the adjustable slide N for the back lines of rollers are tapered immediately from the bearing portion, and the slide is also tapered at right-angles to this, as shown at N<2> and N' respectively, to facilitate removal of fly. The roller stand may be arranged so that the lines of rollers are horizontal or only slightly inclined, and may be placed nearer the centre line of the machine than usual for the purpose of reducing the friction at the front top-roller bearings.
