Abstract

5917. King, J. March 12. Loom shedding-motions; warp tension, regulating; jacquards.-Leno fabrics, which have a 'full cross' leno ground (i.e., one tread of plain alternating with one tread of full-cross leno) and a jacquard figure, are woven by a double-lift open-shed jacquard and various special tappets. One-third of the warp threads are drawn through the figuring- harness b<1>, Fig. 1, controlled by half the jacquard needles, and also through the doup f, coupled to a griff or other part of the jacquard which rises and falls at each alternate pick. The doup is caused to move through a greater distance than the harness b<1>, in order to keep the doup loops clear. The plain weave of the ground is formed by drawing one-third of the warp threads through a heald k which is actuated quickly by a six-tread tappet k<1>, Fig. 6, and by drawing another third of the warp threads through the healds c operated by half the jacquard needles. The healds c may be operated by a heald shaft d operated by lever mechanism and a plain two-tread tappet d<1>, half the jacquard needles and their griffs &c. being dispensed with. Moreover, only one top lever, crank e, and operating-rod e' are in this case required. The pattern cylinder may be operated from the tappetshaft at alternate picks. The tappet f<2>, which actuates the doup heald shaft f<1> through lever mechanism f<3>, f<4>, f<5>, is shaped so that the doup is retained in its raised position for a short time only. The slackener or bar g, which relieves the tension on the doup warps, is operated from a tappet g<1> and commences its movements when the warps are about level. Tension is put on the slackened threads by a bar which rests upon them and extends across the loom, being guided in slots in brackets secured to the framework.
