Abstract
4150. Crouch, J. P. Feb. 19. Doors, wagon.-In a railway wagon or van having sliding doors, an opening is formed in the roof at each doorway, and the portion of the cant-rail over each doorway is movable to enable a clear opening in the side and roof of the vehicle to be obtained. The door b; Figs. 1 and 3, is furnished at the bottom with rollers c running on a fixed angle-iron, and the top extends into a guide-groove e, formed by a bar f and cover-plate g fixed to the cant-rail h of the wagon. The portion of the cant-rail h and the door-guide over each doorway is hinged at o to a fixed bracket, and is fixed in the horizontal position by a bolt p, or may be lowered against the side of the doorway and secured to a bracket t. The opening a<1> in the roof may be covered by a tarpaulin, or sliding-roof doors may be provided. In a modified form, the door is supported by rollers c, Figs. 5 and 6, running on a rail 1 fixed to the cant-rail. The part of the rail 1 over the doorway is connected to a bar 4 and provided with rollers 5 to run on a channel 6 fixed at one side of the doorway. The movable part 4 can be secured in either of its positions by a bolt 7 passing through holes 9 in the rail. In a further modification, the movable part of the rail is hinged to fold against the side of the doorway, and the bottom of the door is prevented from moving laterally by a rail d, Fig. 11, projecting into a slot 15 in the door.
