Abstract

4026. Vosmaer, A. Feb. 18. Resistance coils are made of bare wire of steel, constantan, &c. wound with only a small air space between the turns, the layers being insulated by layers of asbestos or other refractory material, so that the coil may be allowed to become hot. The wire is wound on asbestos, covering an iron tube a with end-flanges b, and the whole is enclosed by end covers e and a cylindrical casing f of sheet metal, and may be carried by a central rod with an eye and nut. Ballast resistances may be made thus with fine wire. The resistance may be made non-inductive
