Abstract

3372. Wade, C. E., and Vaughn, R. R. Feb. 11. Wood substitutes.-Artificial lumber, consisting of a mixture of asbestos or other fibre and hydraulic cement reinforced by one or more layers of wire netting, is formed around the roller of a machine analogous to a pasteboard-making machine, the soft sheet thus formed being slit, removed from the roller, and compressed into a flat or corrugated sheet. The wet fibre-cement is wound in several layers around the roller, and the wire netting, cut to such a length that it will completely surround the roller without overlapping, is then fed in, and further layers of pulp are then wound on. When producing corrugations as in Fig. 2, a corrugating-bammer is first employed and finally corrugating-dies.
