2766. Bloxam, A. G., [Akt.-Ges. fur Anilin- Fabrikation]. Feb. 4. Diphenylamine and its derivatives are produced by heating aromatic amines or their derivatives with brombenzene and cuprous iodide in presence or absence of iodobenzene. For example, acetaniline and brombenzene are dissolved in nitrobenzene ; potassium carbonate and cuprous iodide are added ; and themixture is boiled for many hours. On distilling off the nitrobenzene, pure diphenylamine is obtained. In a similar manner are obtained o-, m-, and p-nitrodiphenylamines from the corresponding nitranilines; o-methoxydiphenylamine from o-anisidine ; phenylanthranilic acid from anthranilic acid; o- and p-oxydiphenylamines from the corresponding aminophenols ; and nitro derivatives of phenyltolylamine from dinitrotoluidines.
