Brush-holders.-In electrically-propelled vehicles, in which the armatures and commutators of the driving-motors are secured on one or more driving- axles and the field-magnets are attached to the vehicle frame, the brush-holders are also supported on the frame and are arranged to permit of radial or tangential movement of the brushes. Each brush-holder proper H, Fig. 3, is preferably secured to the lower end of a slab h<2> of wood &c., which is preferably protected at its upper end by metal plates h<3>, h<4>, Fig. 4. The two slabs h<8>, carrying the brush-holders of adjacent motors, are secured by a bolt h<5> to a frame member a. The brushes are adjusted radially by means of wedges h<7> which, together with the complementary wedges h<8>, are positioned between the members h<2> and the frame member a. The wedges h<7> are provided with slots h<9>, and the engaging-surfaces of the wedges h<7>, h<8> are preferably made corrugated. The wedges h<8> may be integral with, or secured to, the frame a, or may be formed on separate elements which are held in place by the bolt h<5>. In order to economize space, the wedges h<8>, h<7> are preferably formed with double parallel inclines h<11>, h<11> and h<10>, h<10> respectively, as shown. The openings h<6> in the members h<2>, through which the bolt h<5> passes, are elongated in the vertical direction to permit of the tangential adjustment of the brushes. The member H<1>, Fig. 5, within which the brushes h are arranged, is carried by two curved arms H<2>, H<3>, which are also curved away from the support h<2> so that substantially the entire brush mechanism is visible from a point immediately above the brushes.
