25,735. Alexander, P. Nov. 14. India-rubber, purifying.-Relates to the process described in Specification No. 14,681, A.D. 1905. The caoutchouc is dissolved in some suitable solvent, and treated with alkali as before ; but, before distilling with steam, water is added to the mass. In this way, a viscous mass and an alkaline liquid are formed. The liquid is poured off and the mass may be dissolved in hot or cold water, under pressure if necessary. When the process is applied to regenerating waste caoutchouc, impurities are separated out by filtration or subsidence, after the alkali has been added, and again after the mass has been dissolved in water. By using a suitable precipitant, such as an acid or chimney gases, pure caoutchouc is obtained.
