25,585. M³ller, W. Nov. 13. Ironing-machines.-Relates to a fabric-feeding device for calendering and laundry machines. The fabric passes under smooth guiding-rollers g, Figs. 2 and 3, and over a spreading-roller g', each rotating in bearing-heads f of three balanced tubular U shaped supports e, arranged to oscillate on vertical pivots in ball bearings which are vertically adjustable and are clamped by set-screws b. The bearings are carried in a fixed frame a, and the supports c are kept parallel by flexible, tubular links l. Ball-and-socket joints may be used for the links to enable the rollers to be vertically adjusted. The diverging fabric rocks the rollers horizontally against the compression of one of two springs m, fastened to holders n, which are adjustable along the frame, thus varying their leverage distance and force of action, and the fabric is returned to its central position by the oblique rollers, the springs m preventing oscillation about the centre. The rollers g, g' are made tubular and of wood, if desired, to make the frame light. The roller g<1> is driven by a cord h or otherwise. The cord is guided in grooves and covered with a tin guard to protect the cloth. Adjustable stopscrews o limit the play of the supports. The spreading-roller g<1> may be surmounted by another spreading-roller driven by spur gearing &c. from the first roller g<1>, the two rollers oscillating together. A grooved spreading-bar may be substituted for the spreading-roller where a stretching effect is required. The feeding-device may be arranged in either an horizontal or a vertical position.
