Abstract

25,081. Daimler Motoren Ges. Nov. 9, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, starting in. In a multi-cylinder explosion engine, air which has been compressed by the engine is used to generate an explosive mixture, which is admitted to all the cylinders and is fired electrically by means of contacts on the governor shaft in that cylinder in which the piston is in the most favourable starting position. Compressed air from the reservoir a generates an explosive mixture in the benzene vessel c. This mixture passes by way of .the pipe n to all the cylinders, in this case four. A hand inductor is shown at f and the circuit-closing strips at h on the governor shaft d. The strips h are so arranged that current is not conveyed to the ignition apparatus in the cylinder until the piston p is in its best position for starting i.e. a little above the middle position.
