Abstract

23,855. Bergeron, A. J. Oct. 26. Kites.-Relates to a tailless kite formed of two planes and a sail all connected together by ropes or other detachable connexions so that the kite can be taken to pieces. The kite may be used for scientific purposes, as a current taker, or for taking atmospheric pressures, and for averting hailstorms. The application to military and naval signals, marine life-saving purposes, as a sign or prospectus deliverer for advertisements, photography and wireless telegraphy, and to toys is described. The kite consists of a plane A, Figs. 1 and 4, to which is connected in a perpendicular plane the plane B, Figs. 2 and 4, the first plane supporting the kite in the air, and the second one keeping it in the direction of the wind. In order to counterbalance the weight of the plane B, a sail C, Fig. 2 and 4, is connected to the two planes and is arranged in the same plane as the first. The plane A comprises an hexagonal or other frame formed of a hub b, rods or tubes a, and wires or cords c, the frame being covered with silk &c. or with paper if the kite is a toy. Secured to the hub is a rod d supported by a cross-piece e, and to this rod the plane B is connected by means of a socket h and cords &c. The plane B is constructed of a rod g and a curved rod i joined to the rod g by rods j and braced by cords &c., and the plane B is suitably covered. The sail C is connected by means of a rod k to the reduced end k<1> of the rod g, and the central part of the sail is strengthened by a cord m which serves for fastening it to the plane A. In a modified form of frame B, -the part k<1> is perpendicular to the rod g and the bracing-cords are differently arranged.
