Abstract

20,904. Dagnall, W., and Mallinson, J. E. Sept. 20. Aerial machines with aerostats; aerostats; propelling; steering.-The lifting-propellers h of an aerial machine are located in tapered tubes g formed in the aluminium casing a of the aerostat. The machine is propelled by a rear propeller u, and the propellers are driven frcm a motor i through the gearing shown, clutches v<4>, n being provided respectively, to throw the propeller u or propellers h in or out of action. The machine is provided with an horizontal steering-vane s operated by cords s<2> from the hand-wheel s', and with a vertical vane w operated by cords w<2> from the wheel w<1>. The aerostat is provided with inclined planes t, having holes at their upper portions, to retard the descent of the machine by parachute action. The aerostat is formed of one or more upper chambers b connected to a lower chamber or chambers c by valves d, which open when the gas in the chambers b expands. Relief valves e open the chamber c to atmosphere. The lower parts of the machine form cabins f for the crew. Road wheels z are provided, and it is stated in the Provisional Specification that these wheels may be driven by the motor, and that they may be provided with paddles to propel the machine on water.
